Values Blog

Say Something!

I feel I need to expand a little on my blog I wrote earlier about being Jesus. I still mean every word of it, but I need to make an addition to my thought behind writing that particular blog.

John 1:6-9 says, “There was a man named John who was sent from God. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light.”

Later on, in verses 19-28, we see how vocal and forthright John was to others about his faith and who Jesus is. Verses 29-30 say, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the One I told you about…’” And John proclaims Jesus again in verse 35.

I realized something about John. He lived his life in such a way that people could see God in him, but then he also proclaimed God to others. This should be a good word for us as well.

We can be Jesus to others all day long, but eventually we have to say something! We can live, talk, and act in such a way that others can look at us and say, “He’s different from everyone else” or “There’s something about her that I want in my life too.” But we also have to be prepared to proclaim whom it is that makes a difference in our lives—Jesus!

I know it sounds really simple and almost elementary. But I read this and thought, “I’m sure others would want to be reminded of this as well.” Every day, I’m trying to remind myself do these two things in conjunction: boldly live out my faith and values AND proclaim who Jesus is and what He’s done.
