Body Heat

Engineers in Sweden believe they’ve discovered a source of inexpensive, renewable energy to heat a state office building—body heat. This news has to please Al Gore.

The mass of commuters traveling through Stockholm’s main train station already “heat” that building. Officials are planning to divert some of the station’s “surplus” warmth to bolster the heating system in a nearby government building.

The Swedes passing through this transit station probably have no idea the impact they are having on this sector of their community. Yet in reality most of us don’t pause to consider the influence we are having on our surroundings—and it’s more than just our body heat.

When we walk along a beach or a snowy path, we can see the impressions we leave behind. As we traverse our daily lives, we are less likely to see and consider the impact we are having on others.

That’s why it’s so important to allow faith to color all we do, say, and think. When we let our biblically informed values be our guide, we won’t necessarily be heating any buildings, but we could very well be making an eternal difference in some folks’ lives.

By the way, I wonder if that Swedish office building will be handing out air fresheners.
