A Spiritually Hungry World
When we think of world hunger, we often think of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding people who are literally starving from a lack of food. Truly, all over the world, there are those who don’t get to experienced three or more hot meals a day like we do—and we should definitely do something about it.
I want to challenge you to think about world hunger from a different perspective. Think about those who are hungry—no, they’re starving—for truth and hope, but don’t know where to find it. These aren’t just people living in third world countries in the most remote parts of the world. They’re in our workplaces, our circles of friends, our neighborhoods, our families—they pass by us every day.
We have exactly what they need, yet we often withhold it from them. We have the answer in Jesus. We can offer them nourishment to fill their souls. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to Me will ever by hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again” (John 6:35).
In a world where people are grasping at anything as truth and creating a collage of their own ideas and beliefs because they don’t know what to make of life and the ideals of others, isn’t it about time we start fighting against this tragedy? Because it truly is a tragedy and crisis in our world.
Some people go to church all their lives only feeding themselves, and they never pass along the nourishment they receive to anyone else outside the four walls. Imagine what would happen in our world if we gave freely and generously the truth we hold to feed those who are spiritually starving?
