A More Efficient Use of the Web

According to a survey of the Internet by Netcraft, a company devoted to tracking technology on the Web, there are nearly 168 million sites in the virtual world we know as the worldwide Web.

While many of those sites are advantageous to our growth as children of God, there are many others that dishonor God. Use of the Web demands discernment—both in what sites we visit and how long we stay online.

There are enough good Web sites to keep an average person on the Internet for a long time. And even though most of us visit only a very tiny percentage of those sites every week, there is still more information online—thought-provoking and thoughtless—than we can ever hope to get our mind around.

There is an easy way to keep track of the latest postings on your favorite news site or blog—RSS.

Really Simple Syndication, known more commonly by its initials (RSS), is a type of Web feed format that automatically captures posts from Websites that are frequently updated. RSS provides the user a channel through which information flows, negating the requirement that a user go to the site itself to see what is new.

For many of us, surfing the Web borders on being an addictive behavior. Availing oneself of RSS technology using a “newsreader” keeps Web users informed without actually visiting Web sites.

The iLiveValues.com Web site offers this helpful service. Interested in learning more about RSS? Take a look at this instructive video.

We recommend the Google reader.
